Competitive Edge
At TAH we develop students to be well-rounded, resilient, and confident young people, through providing them with a wealth of opportunities. This is at the heart of the academy’s ethos.
Our aim is that all students leave our academy confident, resilient, and prepared for the next stages of their lives – to open doors and keep them open.
‘Every Person, Every Opportunity, Every Success’.
We believe for our students to be successful, we must develop these important character traits:
- Respect, responsibility, honesty, empathy, professional conduct and values
- Knowledge, character, talents, experiences and skills
- Resilience and dedication
- Independence and organisation
- Encourage students to step out of their comfort zone
- Provide students with a broad and balanced view of the world around them
- Give students the competitive edge over other school leavers when entering further education, training, or employment with training.
Our Phase 3 Competitive Edge programme has been designed to ensure our students both develop these key character traits and also have a diverse range of experiences to support these.
In Year 10, we invite six keynote speakers into the academy to meet with our students and discuss their experiences of success and resilience in the wider world. We have been lucky enough to have some exceptional local speakers to date, including Jamie Peacock and Kevin Sinfield (ex England Rugby players). We will welcome the musician and performer Ellie Sax in the new year.
In Year 11, we host two full days for students to meet with next step providers from both post 16 and 18 provisions, to discuss their next step options and the provisions on offer to them to ensure our students are fully informed and guided with their next step options. Day two focuses on careers and wellbeing. At this event our students meet with specialists from a wide range of career and vocational backgrounds to listen to keynote talks and attend hands on workshops linked to both careers and wellbeing.
